With all my blessings…

So it is a fact that friends come and go in our life, but I am very proud to call some of them my brothers. I pray that God will always be with you as you sail through every heights in Miri. Looking forward to work with you again, in two years time.

My team-mate, comrade and brother.

of Work and Love

So works were not on smooth path recently with a lot of unnecessary stress tagging along, which without me realizing, had monopolized all my time and energy. This indirectly reduce my time and attention towards my other responsibilities. Relationship, that’s one. I lost my balance.

Sadness landed and heartache strikes. I went for a drive while doing a little self-reflection and self-blaming. As I was caught in a long queue waiting for the traffic light to turn green, something caught my attention…

The cross hanging in my car.

Something just tell me to open my Bible app. I did, after I got home, and start to look for some topical Bible reading plan. “Relationship”, a 5 days reading plan. I know I have to commit to this plan and re-dedicate my relationship to God. And I will.

Lord Jesus, I thank You for never give up on me. In Jesus name, Amen.

of Ups and Downs

February 28, 2012 Leave a comment

So life has been quite interesting recently, from changing my daily diet to political gimmicks. You name it, it all came in the same week.

Half boiled egg, steamed lady fingers and carrot slices.

Anyway, work has been quite “fulfilling” over the past two weeks with interesting comments from various party shooting towards me and my sites. From rootless comments and political gimmicks to brainless words from so called “people-from-the-same-side-of-the-game”. Interesting, right? Well what hurts me the most would be the later, where the people who are suppose to be on your side start making unnecessary noises just to protect their own mistakes. I suppose I just have to accept the fact that in the real world, humans are just selfish.

As I were somehow involved in leadership training of youth in Boys’ Brigade, I’ve always trying to implement this mindset of “Growing Together” rather than “Stepping on Others to Climb Up”. Chinese have this saying that one should not teach every single thing that you know to your student, just in case your student decided to betray you and beat you up one day. (Well, I suppose that’s why a lot of the Kung Fu moves that we saw in Chinese action movies are no longer available in this decade.) Personally I do not agree to that saying cause I always want my team to grow the same pace as I am, and it will somehow force myself to keep improving and pumping in new knowledges too! When one day my team mates were promoted to higher level, I know I would be so proud of them (and myself) cause I know I played a part in their success! (Tumpang glamour!)

Apart from that, I’ve also been getting comments like not being smart enough in choosing sites. Honestly, I’ve never regretted in choosing a more challenging workplace. Cause challenges are what drive me forward, and I hold on to God’s promises. [The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” –Psalm 32:8 (NLT)] I cannot deny that at times I do feel grumpy about doing much more than required by my job scoop as per job description but at the end of the day, the feeling of satisfaction rewards my mind well. I cant deny too that all these extra challenges had filled me with extra knowledge and skills, and hopefully get spotted and promoted? Well, everyone aiming for promotion, isn’t it? Unless I am the kind of guy who easily satisfied at where he is at now and never aim to improves.

Oh well, all in all I am very glad that I am in a team that’s very closely knitted, more on like family. And together we’ve been through all sort of challenges!

Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships. -Michael Jordan-

Cause You’re Too Young!

So I hope its not too late to wish everyone a Blessed Chinese New Year, 新年蒙恩!Pray that God will bless us all abundantly in the years to come!

Anyway, I heard a very childish statement from a mouth of an middle-age man today when he was “insulting” one of my friend. “So what if you are good and talented, after all you are not old enough!” Oh man!!! How it is possible that a near-50-years-old man would ever say something that childish and brainless? I was a little disturbed by his statement and have a little urge to go for a debate with him but thank God that my brain was working fast and keep myself cool. Else I would be as childish to argue with such a childish uncle.

Here’s what the bible say: “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.” (1 Timothy 4:12).

And to the dear uncle, if you being insecure that the younger generation might overtake you in your career, kindly upgrade yourself. It’s never too late to keep learning.

Engineering Etiquette

August 20, 2011 Leave a comment

So the company entrusted me with a new bridge around the town, which (unluckily) causes me to have much mental distress. Surely there are several challenges (and not problems) but those are not what disturbing me. Illegal squatters on the river reserve, now that’s what kept my mind worried.

Courtesy visits to the locals has always been my practice before commencement of any project. So I (with a few colleagues) visited one of the house that were greatly affected by the bridge project as part of the house will have to be temporarily dismantled. To my surprise, that little wooden house accommodates 4 old folks (50+ yrs old to 91 years old), with 3 of them were severally sick! What surprised me even more is that they welcomed us warmly and that old-91-years-old aunty even trying to get up from bed to welcome us. At that very moment, I decided to walk away from that house cause I do not want to see that aunty’s face. Cause I know I cannot hold my tears. The only thing that they ask for, is that we keep the rooms for them, no compensations. Nothing. Since that day until now, I have yet to stop thinking on how to minimize any “destruction” to the locals.

As a Civil Engineer, it is our responsibility to contribute our very best to the Civilizations in a Civilized way. We are suppose to solved the civilians problems and not to create more problems to them. We should all hold on to the code of etiquettes in every circumstances!

Merciful God, I pray for that You will teach me how to overcome this challenges.

Engineering Survey

August 10, 2011 Leave a comment

So I had been dealing with fresh engineers, supervisors, interns and trainees for the past few weeks which I were suppose to share with them my knowledge. Or at least let them know what they suppose to know. As a freshman in the field, I have awfully limited knowledge and experiences to share with them. You know, the blind leads the blind…

But, there are one skill that I consider very essential – Engineering Survey. Reason? You need that in any construction work! I used to think that we engineer do not need to master this skill as it is usually done by supervisors or surveyors. But then again, how are you going to make sure they do not cheat on you if you know nothing on it? My views changed.

Have a blessed day ahead!
